After the silver 68 Hemi Charger restoration was complete, it was time to re-arrange the garage so the next project could be started. In the process of moving cars around I uncovered my 1968 Chevelle SS396 that I drove through High School. It has been stored away, covered up since the day after graduation in 1988. In 2005 I pulled the original engine and freshened it up but never installed it back in the car. It was time to show this car some love and attention! After pulling it out and a thorough cleaning, it was time to get to work. The car retains its original paint, top, interior, engine and transmission. My goal here was to clean everything, reinstall the engine and make the car safe to drive. Once the engine compartment was cleaned and touched up, I installed the engine and hooked everything back up. I replaced the gas tank, brake hoses, tires, exhaust, hoses, belts and rear control arm bushings. I reinstalled all the performance parts I used back in the late 80’s, keeping things as I had them which, I think, adds to this time capsule. Once everything was back together and running well, I took the car over to my detailer for a professional cleaning, buff and polish. Here are some pics along the way to getting my most cherished car back on the road.
