Hurricane Daytona

Here it is people, the Hurricane Daytona, a 1969 Dodge Daytona that was unfortunately flooded during Hurricane Ian. I know you have seen the pics of the poor Superbird that was flipped upside down in the hurricane, well look closely and you will see this car sitting in front of the Superbird. Even though this car did not receive as much damage as the Superbird, it was still under salt water for 2 days and did get smashed into fences, palm trees and other things we don’t even know about. All of us here at Muscle Or Performance Auto Restoration are extremely humbled that the new owner, Tony, asked us to restore this classic and more importantly, save it from certain rusting death. We accepted the challenge and immediately went to work disassembling the car down to the last nut and bolt. The salt water was working quickly, corroding and destroying this car so we had to move fast. By the time we got the car to our shop, the front suspension was rusted solid, many of the small screws and aluminum parts had already rusted so badly they couldn’t be identified or saved. Every piece of steel, cast iron or metal was send to the dipper to be stripped and rust neutralized. Its the only way we could be absolutely sure we stopped any further corrosion or damage from the salt water. Components like the carburetor, gauges, seat belts and other sub-assemblies were all sent off to our partners that help restore these individual components for us. We have gotten the car back from the stripper and it is now at RC Customs receiving metal prep then bodywork and eventually paint. The engine has come back from the machine shop with a clean bill of health and is ready to be assembled. We update social media regularly on this project’s status, so you can follow along closely there.
