Matt Koops

1970 Dodge Charger

Matt Koops with 1970 Dodge Charger AKA Pinketo

Matt started his mechanical interests at a very young age. Before he can remember, his mother tells a story about Matt finding a screw driver and disassembling the whole kitchen cabinetry. Instead of getting angry, mom instructed him to re-install everything he dismantled… Which he did.

Heavily modified homemade go-carts followed. I still think Tecumseh would  be amazed how much power a 7 hp engine can produce with the appropriate modifications.

At 13 yrs old,  Matt purchased his first car, a badly beaten 1965 Chevelle. Soon after a 1968 SS 396 Chevelle was purchased which took Matt through High School. He still owns the 68, which finds itself surrounded by some of the rarest Mopar muscle cars ever produced.

After High School Matt started restoring Corvettes which helped pay for College. Taking a hiatus from the car mayhem during College, Matt returned once he graduated in 1997. Focusing on drag racing, Matt campaigned 3 different 1970 Camaro’s ranging from a stock suspension nitrous fed big block to a chrome molly chassis pro mod.

Having grown up around the racing and Muscle Car scene his whole life, restoring the cars that he was familiar with was the obvious choice. Having worked at Papa’s Dodge in New Britain Ct. as well as working on many Mopars that friends owned, Matt soon changed his focus to the Mopars of the late 60’s.

The focus of Matt’s collecting has been the 1968-1970 Dodge Chargers and still is today. His first Charger, a 1969 received a full rotisserie restoration, won car shows and ran low 11’s in the 1/4 mile. This was done with a stock 440 R/T drivetrain and a little nitrous to help things get done a little quicker.

His passion for Mopars has grown into the business you see today. He prides himself in providing honest, high quality work for a fair price. Having dealt with unscrupulous people and shops when he was young, Matt is determined to treat people fairly and exceed their expectations.
